Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2012 my friends' son Patrick was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. TSC is a complex genetic condition affecting an estimated 8,000 people in the UK. Children with TSC can have growths in their brain, heart, eyes, kidneys, lungs or on their skin. They also have epilepsy, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and renal problems.
Patrick's parents Helen and Stewart have been two of my best friends since we worked in Kenya together for several years from the age of 19. They have always inspired me as individuals, but the way they have dealt with the impact of TSC on their lives and worked together as a family to build a beautiful life for Patrick is brilliant.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to run the London Marathon to raise money for the TSA to support families like theirs. It is heartbreaking to watch this condition develop not knowing how Patrick will be affected by the tumours in his brain , whether they will grow or develop elsewhere, what impact that will have on him.
The TSA provide invaluable information and support on the different aspects of TSC. They connect families, put them in touch with TSC specialists , they hold conferences to inform families , exchanging ideas and information, and raise awareness of the condition amongst medical professionals. The TSA also helps to fund leading research into the condition. Advances in research have led to the identification of TSC genes and new improved drug treatments.
Patrick is a happy wee boy in a beautiful family and I am very proud to be running the London Marathon for TSA. I am hoping to raise as much money as possible to make the experience truly worthwhile and am very grateful for your help in this. Every little amount helps and I really appreciate your support.
