Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The LGBT community- I am a proud member of- is disproportionately affected by addiction (estimates say one third of us, versus 1 in 10 of the general population, have some kind of addictive illness).
Trauma and low self-worth are two key drivers of addiction and growing up gay in our society is still tough for many of us- we still get bullied in schools and are surrounded by a culture in which our love and relationships are often invisible.
Stonewall does great work to combat this invisibility and prejudice and they fund *health research that is helping identify and prove our specific needs; and that NHS addiction & mental health services are not currently meeting them.
I am looking forward to jumping out of a plane with lots of other screaming queers to raise money for this area of their work and really hope that you (yes, YOU) will make Feeling the Fear and Doing it Anyway very worthwhile for them.

*I was able to write Death By Diversity because of this: http://www.addictiontoday.org/addictiontoday/2009/08/death-by-diversity.html
