Story
Hey everyone, thanks for visiting my page! On the 13th of May, I’ll be running the Jurassic Coast 100km Ultra Marathon in memory of my beautiful mum and to raise funds for the Salisbury Hospice.
My family’s lives changed forever in August 2018 when, after a routine check up, my mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
To say this was a shock is a huge understatement, my mum was 55 and the fittest, healthiest lady I knew.
When we thought things couldn’t get any worse, we received the heartbreaking news that the treatment wasn’t working and there was nothing more the doctors could do.
At this point our lives pretty much fell apart. It was hard to see any way forward.
Salisbury Hospice helped to give us that way forward.
I was lucky enough to not know much about the role hospices play until they stepped in to support my mum and my family through what was an impossible time.
They helped us accept what was coming so that we could focus on what was important and make as many memories as we could before our mum was taken away from us.
They made sure my mum could be there for my sister’s graduation and provided care we weren’t able to.
When my mum passed away, ten short months after her diagnosis, they continued to check in and offer help.
For my family and for so many others, they are a light in what felt like a very dark room.
I’ll never be able to repay the kindness of the Salisbury hospice and their staff but I can raise funds and awareness for a charity that needs and deserves both.
Thank you so much for visiting my page, any donations are hugely appreciated.
Love, Sarah
