Story

I'm super excited that Free Kicks has been voted by the students of Somerville College, Oxford to receive charity funding from the JCR!

=====

Thank you all so much for helping me exceed my target! However, it's certainly the more the merrier when it comes to charities and every £200 we raise gives a child a chance to be mascot at a game of his/her favorite football club!

======

Hey, first of all, thanks for visiting my page:)

Being an overseas student, I've always been grateful for the opportunity to study here in the UK and get to know all my lovely friends from around the world. I'd love to help the people in this country, especially the children, as much as I can.

Currently I'm fundraising for Free Kicks Foundation, which is a charity aiming to provide a day to remember for the ill, bereaved and disadvantaged children with their favourite football club and players.

I'd like to share with you Adam's story written by his mum which made me think a lot about how fragile lives can be and how valuable it is to fulfill a child's dream:

Adam had been a fan of Chelsea for a few years before he was diagnosed with cancer. When Free Kicks Foundation offered him a VIP trip to see Chelsea play, he was more than anything overwhelmed that he was being given such an amazing treat just for being ill (as he would put it). He watched the game from the players lounge with some of the players’ families and one of the players willingly had his picture taken with Adam, despite Adam not wanting to bother him!

After the game, Adam was taken through to meet the players. He was nervous and excited. When he came back he had tears in his eyes and said “Mum, John Terry gave me his shirt and his Premiership captain’s armband”, which he had apparently never given away before. He was just so overwhelmed and happy and for me to see him smiling and excited like that after everything meant so much.

The experience continued when four months later, a few weeks before he died, Adam received a package from Chelsea for his birthday with gifts and a card hand-written from John Terry and Frank Lampard. He couldn’t believe it. He kept saying “Mum, are they real? Are they really from them?” It was an unforgettable, touching experience for Adam and the whole family – the shirt, armband and cards are all in a huge frame on the wall.

I decided to do something for all the children who are like Adam and I'd truly appreciate your help in raising the crucial funds for Free Kicks.

On Nov 24th, I will be trained for a day and on the following day I will jump out of a plane from 3,500 feet. This will be my first skydive ever and it is not a tandem skydive, so I will be jumping solo, without an instructor holding from behind. I'm taking the challenge because I've come to realize that we're gifted to be healthy and it's absolutely our mandate to live everyday to the fullest. At the same time, I hope the money I raise for the children can give them a day where they can leave behind any imperfection in their lives and just shine with happiness.

Every donation, however small it may be, is needed and will be put into good use to help the children.

Thank you and we need your support!
