Story
In the UK, there are currently 850,000 people living with dementia. It is a huge problem, as this is projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040, so will affect many more people in the future. I am running 85 miles to represent 10,000 people per mile. But don't worry mum, I'm not going to run it all in one go!
As a lot of you know, my dad was diagnosed with dementia just over 3 years ago. He is currently in a nursing home, as his dementia and symptoms became severe, so we couldn't care for him at home anymore.
That is why I care so passionately about people with dementia and their carers. They definitely deserve more support and would love a break!
Until a cure is found, we need to find better ways of living with the condition. Dementia Adventure believes, with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to enjoy outdoor activities, keep active and retain a sense of adventure in their lives.
They have trained thousands of individuals to think differently about dementia (including me - I attended one of their free workshops) and enabled hundreds to enjoy a supported dementia holiday or short break - making a huge difference to the health and wellbeing of people with dementia and their families.
By sponsoring me on my run for the DA85 campaign
you will be helping to support more families to cope with this heartbreaking condition, so dementia sufferers can experience a better quality of life.
P.S. My cover photo features the bridge at Walton-on-Thames, where I will be doing the majority of my runs.
