Thames River Path Walk · 22 June 2013
As many people know I was diagnosed as having Central Nervous System Vasculitis in 2011, after a very dicey time!
To save me reiterating, here's the long and the short of it: http://www.thisistotalessex.co.uk/Teacher-spent-weeks-agony-disease-diagnosis/story-19055353-detail/story.html#axzz2UQaHQ5ll
Diagnosis took so long because awareness of the group of Vasculitis diseases is not high enough - there are so few cases each year not enough is known and doctors do not do not immediately think to look and test for it. This is what Vasculitis UK is trying to change.
Through this walk along the Thames, we hope to raise awareness amd money for research,so that people will not need to hit an ultimate low and (in some cases) even death in the future, before diagnosis. Research will also help doctors to understand Vasculitis, and work towards better treatment and (you never know!) a cure.
Myself, Deane, my Mum and Dad, Amy, Lee and the little people are going to strap on our walking boots (although I am still seriously considering buying some 'Wheelies') and cross our fingers for nice weather, in aid of Vasculitis UK.
Organised by Jacqui Moran and Karen St Ledger - and with the participation of many Vasculitis sufferers, their families and friends - the 6 mile walk will take us past the The Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge and many others sites... with the high possibility of a stop for lunch on the South Bank to catch our breath along the way!
So please rummage through your pockets and give a few pence towards such a worthy cause and encourage us (probably mainly me) to see the 6 miles through to the end!
