Story
On Feb 3rd, 2010 I was 29 weeks pregnant. Although I didn't know it, I was also in labour. That evening my waters broke and I was (eventually) rushed to hospital in an ambulance, we didn't quite make it and David was born within the hospital grounds, still in the cold ambulance.
He breathed on his own to begin with, but quickly needed to be fully intubated and put on a ventilator, he also had some other problems, including with his heart.
Although born at Dewsbury District Hospital, he was sent to Pontefract the next day as he was so poorly and spent some weeks there before coming back to Dewsbury until he was finally released, still on oxygen, the day after his due date.
He's now a small force of nature, healthy, happy and capable of causing all the havoc and destruction a normal 16 month old should. That is in part due to the support of Bliss, whose expertise in the care of premature babies was practiced at both hospitals. They provided a lot of information and support that really helped me and my husband to understand what was happening with our child and what we could do to help him.
On August 7th, with your help, we can give a little back.
