Story
I'm taking part in the Bournemouth 1.4 mile pier to pier swim on 15 July 2012. Please sponsor me and help to raise money for the BHF.
In August 2011 my 43 year old husband, Mark, had an unexpected heart attack which resulted in a cardiac arrest. Thanks to some amazing passers-by Mark was given immediate CPR until the ambulance service arrived and managed to restart his heart. He spent the next 2 weeks in Critical Care in an induced coma and suffered several complications. Even though the odds of surviving an out of hospital cardiac arrest are only 3%, Mark managed to pull through and is making a fantastic recovery.
On the day Mark moved out of Critical Care, his father sadly passed away from a heart attack. He had been suffering from heart disease and had his first heart attack a few years ago.
The BHF made regular visits to see my father in law and I have also attended one of their CPR courses. Their booklets were also an invaluable source of information in understanding Mark's condition both for ourselves, our family and his first aid colleagues at work.
From the huge amount of help, support and expertise that people have given my family, I feel very passionate about raising money to enable BHF to help others, and by registering for an event that is going to be a challenge for me makes it even more meaningful.
