Story

At about 8am on Saturday 19th June I will be getting on my bike near Leeds and going for a quick spin before returning back to my start point before 8am on Sunday 20th June. So where am I going....?

Scotland!!

Why....? I am riding 1000 miles in less that 24 hours to raise vital funds for The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal. Last year the RBL spent over £100million on welfare alone and with the current conflicts are being called on more than ever to support the serving and ex service men and women of our country and their families. The Legion has been helping heroes since 1921 and today it is my chance to help them to continue to offer their help and support which is so desperately needed by those who fight to keep us free.

So it's a fantastic cause, but all you are doing is getting on your bike (which you ride for pleasure) and going on a bit of a jolly....??

Technically yes! But whether you ride a motorcycle or drive a car, or even get the bus. Think of a journey you make regularly, about 10 miles, then imagine doing it 100 times...... in a row...... in one day!!! Still easy?

Then take the roof off and add the good old Great British weather! red hot one minute (that's really not pleasant in leathers!) then raining the next (that's equally as unpleasant), then the temperature drop, especially at night and especially if by this point I am a bit soggy!!! Still easy?

Then consider the increased level of concentration required to ride a motorcycle compared to driving a car......literally everything on the road is trying to kill you, pot holes, drain covers, white lines, birds, other traffic (for example a simple blow out in a car is damn scary! A blow out on a bike normally only ends one way....horizontal!) Still easy?

I'm 25 years old, I'm a girl, I will have been riding for 2 years to the day, I don't drive a car and have never done any long distance riding, I am nervous of riding in the dark and I am the worlds worst navigator!! Still easy???

Then I will see you there!

Thank you so much for your support, it really is appreciated.

Sarah

soon to be known as Wayne......John Wayne!
