Story
In a temporary moment of insanity, we signed up to run the Edinburgh Half Marathon on the 27th of May. Given that neither of us are runners, and Sarah currently gets out of breath going up the stairs to her flat, we think you'll appreciate this is going to be a CHALLENGE. Especially when you factor in the sibling rivalry...
Which is why we've decided to get starting on the fundraising as soon as possible - so no one can back out!
We've decided to run the race in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, a UK based charity which aims to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer. It is estimated that there are 2 million people in the UK living with cancer, with around 300,000 new diagnoses each yeah. Given that 1 in 3 of us will get cancer at some stage in our lives, sadly cancer is likely to affect us all in one way or another.
Which is why the work that Macmillan Cancer support do is so important: they strive to fund nurses and healthcare professionals; to provide practical, emotional and financial support to patients and their families; and act as a force of change and a voice for those affected to get better cancer care.
However, 99% of the wonderful services that Macmillan Cancer Support rely solely on funding from their supporters, and this is why they need you.
Just £10 can provie 20 copies of The Cancer Guide - a Macmillan booklet to support someone with a recent diagnosis. £2026 can fund an entire Macmillan rehab support team for a week, providing a range of rehabilitation support including physiotherapy. While this sounds a lot, 820 runners are supporting Macmillan cancer and aim to raise £600,000 as a team - imagine what can be done with that amount of money!
