Story
The current crisis in Syria and other war torn and unstable countries has weighed heavy on my heart. I have questioned how I can go about my daily life, worrying about the most trivial of things when there are children and families facing atrosities I cannot even begin to imagine. I wake up thankful each morning that I have a home, I am warm, have food and I am safe and healthy. The most basic and fundamental things which most of us just take for granted are things Syrian refugees do not have. On top of that, I have the greatest gift of watching my children growing up carefree; knowing I am in the position to provide these basic things, alongside an education, so they can flourish, learn, grow and have a hopeful future ahead of them. I find it heartbreaking seeing and hearing stories of displaced children and families in war torn countries and feel I want to make a difference, no matter how small.
I love to run but I had got to the stage of feeling fed up simply trying to chase pb's. 'So, why not turn my running into something a bit more worthwhile' I thought. So, on the 9th of April I am running the Brighton Marathon to raise a whole bundle of money for Children on the Edge.
Children on the edge are an amazing charity based in West Sussex who are working to bring hope and opportunity to displaced children. They bring colour and life in dark times. Among numerous projects they are currently working in Lebanon to set up, equip and run tented schools in Syrian refugee camps. All donations, no matter how much, really do make a difference to the work they do. It costs £1,800 to provide all the materials and labour to build and equip one tented school, and £995 to pay the salary of one teacher for a term. Safe water for a year and heating in winter for a school only costs £250. £25 is enough to provide exercise books, pencils and all other materials for a pupil in one of these schools. £10 will buy a child a warm coat. You can check out their website here: http://www.childrenontheedge.org
I would be so grateful if could spare any pennies to help Children on the Edge continue with their amazing work and to help bring some hope and happiness to children so desperately in need.
Thank you and much love
