We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

As a company we have put together a team to undertake this daunting challenge - The National Three Peaks Challenge is a well-known phrase amongst the more adventurous (not novice insurance brokers). This challenge involves walking the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell) and Wales (Snowdon) and if that’s not hard enough we are attempting to complete this within 24 hours! We will start at Ben Nevis on the afternoon of  Saturday 7 July then drive through the night to the Lake District and walk Scafell Pike at breaking dawn on the Sunday then the last lapse will be Snowdon in Wales, hopefully starting the ascent midday on Sunday.

Sitting in our local pub one lunch time this challenge seemed like a great idea. After nearly 8-weeks training which has involved climbing Snowdon twice and Scafell once, numerous miles of walking around the Chiltern Hills, one speeding ticket and very sore knees I am still in!!!!! However this weekend does involve walking Scafell followed by Snowdon within 15 hours so hopefully my body will still be willing to undertake this challenge at the end.

So why am I doing this…..

The Three Peak Challenge has always been something that I had wanted to do and when this opportunity come up I jumped at it! This is and will really push my physical abilities to the limit and hopefully I will achieve what we have set out to do. The training has already taught me so much not only about myself but what great friends and family I have who have helped and continue to support me all the way. The second reason was the opportunity of raising funds for Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Their ground-breaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has seen survival rates double in the last 40 years. But when you see and hear statistics like “more than one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives” and “every two minutes someone in the UK is told they have cancer”  and “in the 1960s only a quarter of children with cancer survived. Today almost three quarters survive” and when you realise that Cancer Research UK is totally funded by the public I think it makes us all realise that this is a charity which needs our help.

Cancer Research only manage to fight against cancer and seek preventions and cures through people such as you and I replying to the continuing surge of emails and requests for support. It is for this reason that I am intending to attempt this challenge, sending this to you and to hopefully persuade you that it is worthy of your support.

As I said at the outset I will be very grateful for your good wishes and support but if you can also extend this to sponsoring me that would be fantastic.
