Story

Those of you who know me well will know how brilliantly David was treated at Woking Hospice during the last few months of his life. The staff there treated him - and us - with love, care and respect and allowed David to retain his dignity right to the end of his life. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They made the whole painful time bearable.

Now I find that the facilities at Woking Hospice and the service it provides are threatened by a serious financial crisis. Already, the day-care facility has had to close, and if enough money is not raised by the end of this year, the Hospice itself may have to close, too. This would be disastrous for terminally ill people in Woking and the surrounding area - and for their families. It's crucial that everyone who is able to does as much as possible to raise as much money as possible. So..

I have already begun training for next year's Reading Half Marathon on March 21st, and have paid my registration fee. Illness and bad weather prevented me from doing it last year - and my illness this summer prevented me from doing enough training to complete the promised Great South Run this October. In fact, the  illness I suffered was quite serious and threatened to put a stop to my running for good. Thankfully, that is not now the case, and I am absolutely determined to complete next years RHM - and, I hope, in a respectable time. I've set myself a target time of 2 hours 40 minutes! Training is, so far, going really well.

I know some of you have already donated to my GSR page (which I didn't run) so will quite understand if you don't feel able to donate again. However, if you don't mind putting your hands in your pockets again, I won't complain. Every little helps. If you do donate, please put your name on my page so that i can thank you personally rather than you just getting the automated 'thanks' from the Just Giving site.

I shall be reporting progress on my training regularly on my facebook page - just type in my name in the search and my page should pop up. That way, you can keep track of my efforts!
