Story
What am I up to?
In an effort to raise money for a fantastic charity, I’m abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower on 1st September and running the Great South Run on October the 20th, along with a number of colleagues at work.
I have done the GSR before and know how challenging 10 miles is with dodgy knees but I haven't abseiled in about 30 years and thought it sounded like a ‘fun’ idea when I suggested it to my colleagues, not thinking I'd be doing it too. I also hadn't realised it is 100m tall and in all honesty I am terrified even thinking about it, but I know the importance of leading by example so I am going to do it!
Who am I raising money for?
A small but specialist charity called Service Dogs UK. They train and provide assistance dogs to support members of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the Southern region of the UK. The dogs are trained to help ex-service personnel with nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety and medication reminders. You can find out more on their website https://www.servicedogsuk.org
Why sponsor me?
Mental health is so important, so if I can help just one person experiencing PTSD but putting myself totally outside my own comfort zone, then this will all be worthwhile.
Our emergency service personnel give so much (including their mental health) to help the lives of others and this is a small way to show thanks to them.
I have committed to raising at least £400, so please help me get there!
