Fundraising for Health Poverty Action
Story
Hi Guys!
Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving Page and supporting my first marathon!
I’ve always wanted to run the marathon and doing it for a charity seemed the best way to do it!
Health Poverty Action are the charity I am very honoured to be running for, who help the poorest and most marginalised people assert their right to health, and prioritise those missed out by almost everyone else. I really wanted to run for a charity that meant something to me, my life, friends and family, and Health Poverty Action do just that.
Throughout my childhood I had always visited my family in , but my first visit after seven years at the age of eighteen had a profound affect on me. Although I understood poverty, having seen images on TV and visiting when younger, on this visit, seeing it in front of me really hit me hard. Seeing children, men, and women living in slums and on the streets, looking at them and knowing they have not had a decent meal in weeks is one of the hardest things you can see. We live such a sheltered life in the , we are so lucky to have everything we need available; it’s easy to forget those that don’t. I hope I never forget.
So what more can you and I do to help? Support me running the marathon!
I have been training as much as possible, and although I am totally freaked out about running 26.2 miles, I think I can do it!
I am hoping to do it under 5 hours – but as it’s my first I’m trying not to think too much about the time but to concentrate on finishing it!
I am very fortunate to have a fabulous family, superb friends, and wonderful colleagues – so come on guys – dig deep!
