On 25th October 2014 I will be taking to the skies again and fulfilling another ‘bucket list’ dream! I plan to complete a skydive at 11,000ft with my son, Bradley. We would both like to raise some funds for the MND Association at the same time.

A little about me. I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (Progressive Bulbar Palsy) in May 2013 at 39 years old. The disease has already robbed me of the ability to eat and is now taking my voice too. Stiffness and nerve pains in my limbs and jaw are becoming problematic as time goes on. Fatigue hits me on a daily basis greatly limiting any activity so this will be a real challenge for me. Eventually the disease will take my life. Before it does though I intend to continue living life to the full as much as my failing body will allow.

This will be a personal achievement for Bradley too as he has had his own disabilities to conquer. In November 2012 he was serving with the Army in Afghanistan when an IED exploded severely injuring him. He has had a long journey over the past 2 years recovering from multiple injuries to his whole body. To complete this skydive means an awful lot to both us.

Some facts about MND:

Motor Neurone Disease is fatal and fast. It attacks the nerves that control movement.
Motor Neurone Disease kills five people in the UK every day…half within 14 months of diagnosis.
Motor Neurone Disease affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time.
Motor Neurone Disease means a failing body, unable to move, talk and one day…breathe.
Motor Neurone Disease…No cause, no cure.

The MND Association is a relatively small charity and is the only charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that funds and promotes global research into the disease and provides support for people affected by MND. So, please donate what you can for a worthwhile cause, no matter how small the donation, it all helps.
