Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving Page.
A few years ago I stupidly stated that I wanted to run the London Marathon before I reached a landmark birthday. So the marathon is in April and I am 40 in May, so trainiing is currently well underway for me to complete an item off my bucket list and at the same time raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Support who provide essential financial, practical and emotional support for those living with and affected by cancer.
I am sure that most of you would have had contact. or know someone who has, with Macmillan but if you want to know more, please visit www.macmillan.org.uk. As a guide to what Macmillan do, there are around two million people in the UK living with cancer and Macmillan manage to reach one in two of those, your sponsorship and my legwork could help provide the following:-
£157 could fund a Macmillan Grant that covers the cost of a person's travel to hospital for treatment.
£25 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
£13 could keep a typical Macmillan centre stocked with all the information resources it needs to support people affected by cancer for a day.
£2.50 could pay for an audio cd version of The Cancer Guide so people with visual impairment get the cancer information they need.
Well I did it!!!! 26.2 miles in 4hours, 20minutes and 19seconds, not bad for someone who's 4ft 11 on a good day!! Was an amazing day, the sun was out the whole way so got a sun tan at the same time - the crowds were fanastic and it was great to see family and friends out on the course supporting me - really made a difference. Ran the whole way and I am sure that somewhere there must be a formula for height, distance and finishing time that would mean that I was close Roger's time!! Only suffering with a sore left leg today so that can't be bad.
Thanks for visiting. Take care. Sam x.
