Story
In October 2014, I visited Malawi with Sound Seekers to make a film about the lives of deaf people there, and the challenges they face. Unlike in the UK, there aren't many services available for deaf and hearing impaired people. There is not a single audiologist working for the Malawian public health system. Most deaf people cannot access the medical, educational or social support they need. This was very shocking to me as I have had access to quality audiology and speech language therapy services all my life.
Sound Seekers is trying to change this, with their 'Hear in Malawi' appeal. The money raised as a result of this appeal will go towards training Malawi's first two Audiologists, and building and equipping an audiology clinic for them to work in. With access to quality audiology services, more deaf and hearing impaired Malawians will be able to go to school and get jobs, improving not only their own lives but those of their families.
Every pound you give will be matched by the UK Government (via UK Aid), doubling the value of your donation and helping Sound Seekers to change the lives of twice as many deaf people.
Please help to make a life-changing difference to deaf children and adults in Malawi!
