Story
We want to stop Asia's largest land mammal from becoming extinct. We are the main threat to its extinction. We are destroying their natural habitats, causing violent conflicts that affect humans aswell as the elephants. There were nearly 12,000 elephants in Sri Lanka at the turn of the 19th century, but today the total is around 4,200.
On October 1st this year I will be flying out to Sri Lanka to volunteer for the AWF on their elephant conservation project.
The programme aims to collect important scientific data and ultimatley produce management plans and develop conservation areas for threatened habitats.
You're donations will help towards the construction of an enclosure built especially for the elephants to help them lead more natural lives. The design will give the elephants approximatley 325,100 squared feet to roam in and 24 hour access to the river. Within the enclosure the elephants are free to play, socialise and explore their environment.
The enclosure will cost £50,000 in total to build, but with your help, we can get one step closer to our target.
Thank you
