I have started cycling again after decades of not cycling. Free cycling lessons from Bikeright, funded by Network West Midlands, got me back on the road last Summer. I have been commuting to work by bike and train since January & going to the shops appointments etc by bike when I can. After years of doing many miles by car I am trying to reduce my carbon footprint & contribute (in a small way) to making my city a less congested & polluted place. I have started to cycle with the Boldmere Bullets who have been encouraging me to challenge myself to cycle better, faster & further.
After having spent time in Sierra Leone in 1984, I wanted to try to make a difference to people who don't have basic amenities. Having been busy establishing my career & then being a busy working mum I have not done more than make personal donations.
When I heard about Mark Lewis' team cycling from London to Paris it seemed the perfect opportunity to combine 2 interests. I feel a bit nervous, & know I need to start to do more long runs, I did 65 miles in a day once & my legs were so stiff afterwards, so I know days 2 & 3 will be a challenge, but the more miles I do now, the more manageable it will be.
