We provide care and support to individuals and families affected by EB

Story

DeBRA is a charity that has been supported by my family for many years with many runs being completed in the name of fun! Between us we have clocked up nearly one hundred miles in races alone but with hundreds of miles of training runs too, the slogan "I got a blister for DeBRA" is particularly apt!

In its simplest terms, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a skin condition that means that the skin blisters when touched, even the slightest touch can mean agony. DeBRA supports families affected by this condition by teaching and helping them to live with the condition and carrying out research to try and find cures.  For example:

  • £15.00 could buy a special needs feeder system for babies who have blistered mouths
  • £25.00 could pay for one hour of research to bring us closer to finding effective treatments for EB.

DeBRA organises events for families affected so they can build support networks, they have holiday chalets available for respite holidays, they have nurses who can assist with the daily dressing of skin which can take 3 hours or more every morning and night. This charity is working hard to make the lives of these predominantly children easier - at its most aggressive this can affect internal linings and organs and can be fatal in infancy.

I took up running (again) nearly 4 years ago after having 2 children . I joined a local womens running group 'The Exmouth Running Belles' and haven't looked back since! I have completed 6 half marathons and various 10k, 10mile races as well as some truly stupid cross country runs over Dartmoor. The London Marathon has been on my bucket list since joining the Running Belles having tracked various fellow members round numerous marathons at home and abroad - technology is a wonderful thing! I am hoping that the hills of Devon will stand me in good stead for the marathon as there is no such thing as a flat run around here!

I shall proudly be wearing the DeBRA purple top on the 26th April 2015 and on various training runs between now and then - please support me any way you can, all donations are massively appreciated by DeBRA and I.
