Story
This week is Refugee week & we want to highlight and support the amazing work our colleagues at The Calico Group Syrian Refugee Project do in support of refugees.
SafeNet are asking for donations for the Calico Group Syrian Refugee Project so that they can continue to offer support, training and opportunities to refugees in East Lancashire.
At Present The Syrian Refugee Project are working with 55 families across East Lancashire offering integration support which covers Benefits and finances, housing, health and well being, legal, education/Training (to include ESOL), social and leisure, employment and volunteering.
The project has been supporting the families since 2016 and most of them that arrived that year are in paid employment and those that are not are either volunteering, in Education or training. During lockdown some of the refugees being supported by the project have been volunteering with Burnley Together, to deliver food parcels and others have been making scrubs for NHS staff. They have been keen to support others in need whenever they can.
Each family has different and individual support needs however integration into there communities is a definite need for most of them.
Any funds received will be used for community events which encourages integration and enables the refugee families to make new friends, practice their conversational English language and to feel part of their community.
