Story
Thanks to generous donations from University of Sheffield alumni and supporters, SIDshare has built a field centre, in collaboration with the NGO KEDA in Tanzania. This field centre is a joint social enterprise venture between KEDA and SIDshare. We have been donated 6 PC’s to equip the field centre ensuring that it can be used by visitors as well as the local community for IT training. We are seeking funds to ship the PC’s to Tanzania, to provide printers and to help support internet access.
The NGO, KEDA and the local community in Himo, Tanzania have limited access to computers. The NGO has also established a need for IT training to build capacity among the local community. We are in the process of appointing a Field Centre manager who will also have a background in IT. When the field centre is not in use by visiting groups, we hope to provide training courses at the Centre that will also be supported by Student volunteers from the University of Sheffield's student NGO SIDshare.
We need to purchase 2 printers and cartridges for £300 and £550 to ship the PC's and printers to Tanzania. Any remaining funds will contribute to facilitating internet access.
Once we receive the funds the shipment should take 5-6 weeks. Once installed in the centre's meeting room, we hope to be able to offer IT training from the Summer.
