We fund research and raise awareness to save men's lives from male cancer

Story

So, my story started in February 2007 when, because I hadn't been "checking them regularly", I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which required immediate surgery. There followed a Radical Right Orchidectomy otherwise known as 2-1 reduction.

Subsequently, because the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes, I had to have an intense course (3 cycles) of Chemotherapy in January 2008

This was followed by a Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (affectionately known as "the zipper") in October 2008.

Following all of this treatment, I officially went into remission and currently have one more year before I can be finally discharged by my Oncologist.

Throughout my journey I have been struck by the lack of knowledge around this awful disease, which nowadays one third of people will suffer from apparently.

I would like to raise some money for Orchid, one of the lesser known cancer charities, but one which focuses on specifically male cancers, like the one I had.

I was also aware of the incredible support that Macmillan gave to those and the families of those, who go through a similar journey to mine, with many a lot worse.

I am hoping to raise a huge amount of money by taking part in the Sunset to Sunset Tour 2013. This is an overnight motorcycle event, where we will set off from Holyhead at Sunrise, and ride through the night, arriving in Skegness for Sunrise. I have to admit it’s not the most arduous challenge; they’re not really my thing these days. But, the round trip from Northampton is over 600 miles, so I do hope my story might resonate with some who, as a result, would like to donate to charities that support people experiencing this detestable disease.

The event is organised by the Bikers for Macmillan organisation, however my intention is to share any kind donations between Orchid and Macmillan.

Thank You so much in anticipation of any donation you are able to give !
