I’m pretty sure most people in Llangattock and the surrounding areas know Morgan, or have at least seen him whizzing about in his blue wheelchair! Morgan has cerebral palsy (CP). CP is a permanent disorder of posture and movement resulting from brain damage occurring in the baby or very young child. We found out about Morgan’s CP when he was 9 months old. The damage affects both the messages being received by and sent from the brain and the way in which the brain interprets the information it receives. Children with CP may experience other associated difficulties which can affect vision, hearing and learning. Some have trouble perceiving spaces and judging distances, as the messages to and from the brain can get jumbled up. Each child is affected differently, both in the type of CP and the severity.
Shortly after we found out about Morgan’s condition we discovered Bobath childrens therapy centre in Cardiff. Bobath therapy is made up of 3 disciplines, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech & language therapy. The therapists at Bobath work together to combine these disciplines to give each child the skills to explore their world, communicate their needs, maximise their potential and so improve their quality of life.
Each year the centre needs to raise £900,000 to keep themselves running. So now is the time to do my bit to help them and thank them for their continuing support to enable Morgan to have the fantastic opportunities he does. I’m going to run the London Marathon next April to raise some much needed funds!!!!!!!! Kind regards
