Today, nine people will lose their lives or suffer serious injury because
of landmines, unexploded bombs and other weapons. Almost half will be children.
I am participating in a gruelling yet beautiful 440km cycle across Sri Lanka in February 2016 to raise money for MAG, a hugely important charity that finds and destroys landmines and other unexploded weapons to clear land
for people affected by conflict, so they can go about their daily lives free
from danger and fear. MAG’s work has benefited nearly 15 million people,
helping them to re-establish their livelihoods and improve their families lives. Above all, it
gives people a future free from the fear of death and injury to them and their
children.
This is will be an arduous, testing and exciting journey that will require a lot of training. Not only because of the 440km distance to be covered across mountainous Sri Lanka, but also because I have practically not ridden a bike since a young child and often shy away from any form of risk taking! However this is a challenge that I believe will change my life and more importantly and wonderfully, the lives of the people affected by land mines.
I will be giving regular updates on my training and fundraising. I really appreciate any contributions that help me reach mytarget!
