Story
I (Ruth) have volunteered with Edukaid for the last 2 years, since first becoming aware of this wonderful small charity when Miss Heydari at Morgan's Vale and Woodfalls Primary School organised a sponsored swim for them which Jessica raised money in.
Since charity fundraising in the UK has been hard hit by the current pandemic due to the cancellation of many events we are going to undertake the 2.6 challenge this weekend. Katherine will Hoola Hoop for as long as possible (her current record is 40minutes from a different charity challenge last year). Jessica and I will cycle 26 miles (over 3 sessions to comply with our exercise rules!). Below is a summary of what Edukaid does, and why we think this cause is worthwhile. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our page and read about this.

Edukaid works in the Mtwara region of Tanzania, a poor rural region in the South of this East Africa coastline country. Edukaid works with 20 partner primary schools in the region, and other community initiatives, to improve education, offer new opportunities especially to women and girls, and support the schools to provide for children with a wide range of disabilities.
At this current time as COVID-19 rapidly spreads across Tanzania Edukaid are working hard to support local communities in rural Mtwara protect themselves from the virus and they need our help: Tanzania has a significantly under-resourced health system with not enough doctors and only 1.3 ICU beds per million population. In the rural Mtwara region the situation is is even more critical as community-based clinics struggle to provide even the most basic healthcare. These remote communities do not have access to the facilities or information they need to protect themselves and for these communities preventing the spread of COVID-19 is absolutely crucial if they are to survive this pandemic.
As a small charity, EdUKaid is well-placed to help reduce the risk of the virus spreading – we have staff on the ground and the trust of local communities. With our help they can ensure that the most vulnerable are able to protect themselves. Visit their webpages to find out more:
