Story
I'm completing 'Walk the Wight My Way' to help make sure that, even during this challenging time, the most vulnerable in our communities are cared for when they need it the most. I live in London, but am from the Isle of Wight and that little island will always hold a special place in my heart.
Mountbatten Hospice is a service on the island that promotes and provide good care and support for those people living with, affected by, or curious about death, dying and bereavement across the Isle of Wight. Unfortunately, this year their services will be in great demand, given our current situation.
Usually, every year in May, there is a huge event called Walk the Wight where approx 8000 people walk from one end of the island to the other - 26.5 miles - raising approx £250,000 for this amazing service every year. This is done in only one day, and I have done this event many times in the past. Obviously this year, this event is not able to go ahead as usual.
They are encouraging people to 'Walk the Wight My Way'. Given the situation, I am unable to do this in one day safely and legally, so I will be walking the Wight in one week! So, starting today (Monday 27th April) I will clock up 26.5 miles by 6pm Sunday 3rd May.
I know it’s a difficult time to ask people for donations, so I have already given a donation myself, and only urge you to support me in any way you are able - even if this is just kind words! (The weather forecast is rain all week so I may need some encouragement….!!!)
Thank you so much for your support!
