Story
Russel’s dad died of bowel cancer when he was 12 years old and it impacted his life drastically as it caused his mother to be hit with deep depression that turned to alcoholism. This meant Russel became her carer after a series of falls and hospital stays until her death in 2008.
Bowel cancer impacted his life and through fundraising he hopes that the charity will be able to help eradicate this from happening to people in the future.
Russel also has to be tested regularly for bowel cancer as their is a chance it could be hereditary, as after the first test the doctors found a polyp that could have turned cancerous over time.
Russel wasn’t due to receive the test until after his 30th birthday but pushed to have it early as his sister had also passed away from bowel cancer at an early age. In doing so they were able to find the polyp before it turned cancerous.
