Story

My dad discovered the joy of running later in life than most, but it certainly didn’t stop him and his collection of medals. He ran his first marathon in Paris on his 50th birthday, and I couldn’t have been more proud. I mean, who else decides to celebrate turning 50 by running 26 miles when you had never previously run a few years before?!

His determination inspired me and my Dad quickly had me hooked on the running bug. We entered the London Marathon Ballot year after year with no success, so in 2018 we ran the Barcelona marathon, crossing the finish line together. Ive now lost count as to how many runs we undertook together, in fact I have never entered a competitive run without my dad.

My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in June 2020, and even with a brain tumour causing him to loose his balance (amongst other side effects) it still didn’t stop him from missing any father daughter running time. He was my ultimate, inspirational running coach.

My dad peacefully passed away 11th November 2020. He did not lose his battle with cancer that day, he lived graciously and courageously with it until the very end. In many ways, by him inspiring, teaching and loving us, he won his battle in other very important ways. He was a role model right to the end.

The Martlet’s have carried us through this journey with love, care and compassion. They supported us every step of the way and allowed my Dad to live the last of his life with the dignity and respect he deserved. And now they have offered me a place to run the London Marathon 2021 for Team Martlets.

Not only will I making my Dad proud by finally living the dream we had long wished for, but I will be able to raise money to help the Martlets continue their wonderful work supporting other families like ours with terminal illness.

I know things aren't easy at the moment, but anything you can donate will help Martlets keep caring and supporting local people when they need it the most. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity.
