Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On the 10th of October 2021, I will be running my first ever half marathon in support of African Promise. Having grown up in Kenya, their efforts are close to my heart and I would very much appreciate your support in raising some much needed funds.
African Promise is a small international development charity working towards improving the quality and provision of primary education in rural Kenya by ensuring that schools are equipped to deliver an education worth having. They currently work with 8 schools in south-east Kenya, serving around 3,000 pre- and primary school aged children.
Like many parts of Africa, primary schools in Kenya do not get enough funding - the government provides just £10 a year per pupil. To put that into context, one textbook alone costs £5. This chronic underfunding leads to overcrowded classrooms (as high as 100 pupils per class), shortages of teachers and often a lack of reliable supplies including clean water and lunchtime meals.
African Promise is a charity making a big difference to address these issues. In the 10+ years that they have been operating, they have built or upgraded more than 75 classrooms, supplied more than 15,000 textbooks and provided more than 2.5 million meals.
Your donations will help African Promise to:
- Provide pupils with a daily lunchtime meal at a cost of £12-15 per pupil for an entire school year
- Continue a £250,000 redevelopment of a partner school for the benefit of 600 children
- Ensure that schools have clean water supplies
- Contribute to the salaries of 70 additional teachers and support staff

Thank you for your donation - it will truly make such a difference.
