Story

Simon’s Superstars are doing Ride for Helen 2018 inspired by our very own super hero, Simon Rowan, much loved dad, stepdad, grandad, husband, son, brother & friend (I think I’ve covered everyone!)

As many of you know, Simon was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer in April 2015 and despite a poor prognosis is still very much alive and kicking, albeit with several body parts missing and the addition of some impressive metalwork in his right wrist. If he had been diagnosed some five years earlier, there would have been no effective treatment to offer him post surgery but thanks to the development of targeted therapies and immunotherapy, treatment to control metatastic cancer has been available. The Helen Rollason cancer Charity have provided funding to the Helen Rollason Research Centre at Broomfield Hospital towards clinical trials of some of these new drugs and Simon has been able to participate in the trials and benefit from these new treatments. Every day that these drugs can extend his life is another day that he is still with his family and all the people that love him.

Simon’s courage and stubborn determination have carried him far but without these new drugs he would no longer be with us so we have much to thank The Helen Rollasaon Cancer Charity for; please help us to raise as much money as possible so that they can continue helping people like Simon in their battle against cancer. Anything at all that you can give will be hugely appreciated, every penny makes a difference.

Thank You
