Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 25th April #ScrambledLegs, Holly, Nancy, Nick, Tricia, Sarah, Xav and Mark all took part in the 3rd Virtual Marathon. We are delighted to say we all were successful in completing our marathons.
Thank you to everyone who has donated to our page, and for helping us smash our target. The great news is that dramatherapy will now be returning to The Heathers Care Home. Thank you.
We hope you enjoy this video, celebrating the day.
Before the day:
We are all delighted to be able to run or walk (however we can get it done!) this year's Virtual Marathon in support of such an important, generous, and essential charity. Roundabout Dramatherapy offers dramatherapy sessions, giving people of all ages the chance to express, explore, and heal through creativity and play.
One of the most valued projects Roundabout has been running over the last two years is a service at The Heathers Care Home in Bromley, where each week residents reconnect with memories, feelings and relationships which enriches their lives. Sadly funding will run out at Easter, and the residents are set to loose this vital connection. Please help us meet our target of £2971, so that Roundabout can continue to fund the service for another three months. We are determined to walk, run, and do everything we can to continue this life-enhancing support!
Please make a contribution if you can, which will make a huge difference to the lives of residents at Heather’s.
From Nancy and Nick:
When we think of dramatherapy we often think of children, but this valuable and versatile work is also vital in improving the lives of those at the later end of their days too. I'm therefore proud and excited and somewhat in trepidation, to be helping to raise money for this worthwhile cause so that this important work can continue.
We will be walking through the Surrey Hills from Westcott - via Westhumble - Polesden Lacey - Horsley - Shere - Newlands Corner and back to Westcott. Please give all you can...
From Holly:
Running is something I have never found easy, so I'm already quite proud to have built up to a half marathon distance pretty recently. A full marathon seems rather daunting at the moment, so any support and encouragement will be gratefully received! It will be a huge personal achievement for me, and I'm delighted to be joining the Roundabout team to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.
From Sarah:
I am going to walk my marathon on the South Downs Way, inveigling my family to join me for the last section and hopefully luring in some friends along the way. The South Downs are faintly mysterious to me so this will be a good way to link up bits of the coast as well as being a slightly risky gamble to prove that I still have some energy! Mostly though I want to support Roundabout who are a brilliant charity and do amazing work in sectors where there is increasingly little funding. I feel very lucky to work for them. Please give what you can.
From Xav:
This year some of us are planning to walk our marathon along four sections of the London Loop walking trail. This gorgeous green urban escape links up woodlands, common lands, meadows and park on the outskirts of London.
We will be walking our 26.2 miles along four sections of the London Loop walking route from Ewell near Cheam, to West Wickham, with a short extension at the end to the Heathers Care Home in Bromley.
Here is a provisional plan of our itinerary:
Ewell West Station 8.35am
Banstead Station 9.30am
Coulsdon South Station midday
Whyteleafe Station 2pm
Coombe Lane Tram Stop 5pm
The Heathers 8pm
This is the whole route: Ewell West Station, Nonsuch Park, Banstead Downs, Woodcote, Farthing Downs, Happy Valley, Coulsdon Common, Kenley Common, Hamsey Green, Selsdon Wood, Littleheath Wood, Addington Hills, Hayes Station, The Heathers.
Having worked for Roundabout for nearly ten years now, I know how vital their work is and has been to the mental health of hundreds of service users. In the climate of overstretched statutory services in the wake of the pandemic, this support is more vital than ever. I’m walking my marathon to celebrate the dedication of Roundabout to make a difference and help ensure that the charity continues to thrive and grow

From Tricia:
Before the pandemic, I did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk in a day for Roundabout. That feels like a very long time ago now....especially in my legs!!! I needed a new challenge and I've never done the marathon before. I will be accompanied by Xav who has an excellent sense of direction and my rescue dog Calamity, who also has an excellent sense of direction so I should be ok. Don't worry, Calamity won't be doing anymore than is healthy for her and I am delighted to be doing this for such a great cause. Roundabout offer care and therapeutic support right across the community at a time when need is so great. Anything you are able to donate would be much appreciated.
From Mark
I’m walking for Roundabout because Dramatherapy can make such a difference in the lives of the clients. Older people, adults and children are able to express themselves in a safe environment that makes therapy accessible, non-threatening and even something they look forward to. I’m married to one of the founders and am so proud of the amazing work that the therapists do! I was hoping to complete my second marathon for Roundabout last year, but was injured, so I am determined to finish this year!
