Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
During the period of 2020, we have all been impacted in some way or another by the conditions of this year. We have been faced with unprecedented challenges and these are certain to have an impact upon us and those we work with. In particular the strain upon our Mental Health and Wellbeing, which often takes second place to the risks of the pandemic itself, is a critical issue for many.
For this reason our Client, Merthyr Tydfil Council, Capita and ourselves
at Morgan Sindall have decided to support Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mind as a project Charity for 2020.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mind (formerly Merthyr and the Valleys Mind) was established in 1984 by a group of volunteers who provided ‘drop-in’ sessions for people in the local area with mental health problems. Today, the charity supports around 4000 people a year through a number of projects across Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and
Bridgend.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mind are affiliated to the national Mind organisation and form part of a network of 20 local Mind charities in Wales. Their mission is ‘To provide quality services that promote positive mental health and wellbeing’. One of the charity aims is around the prevention of suicide, and have recently launched Project SPEAK (Suicide, Prevention, Education, Awareness, Kindness) to provide training, awareness campaigns and postvention support across Merthyr, Rhondda and Bridgend.
As part of Project SPEAK, Mind will be rolling out an awareness campaign #ItTakesBallsToTalk, which is targeted at men, signposting them to appropriate support services. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50 in the UK. #ItTakesBallsToTalk will work alongside rugby clubs, football clubs, barbers shops, gyms and
construction companies to promote the campaign and the strapline ‘Talking Saves Lives.’
