Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 25th March 2017, just over a year after my son was born, we are going to cycle the journey he made by ambulance at a week-old between Singleton Hospital and Princess of Wales SCBU Bridgend, to raise awareness and much needed funds for these special babies and their families.
My journey into the world of Neonatal Intensive Care Units and Special Care Baby Units began 7 years ago when my eldest daughter, Carys was born at 34 weeks at Singleton hospital. She was fortunate to only need just under two weeks of specialised care.
On 18th March 2016, my son Dafydd was born at 30 weeks at Singleton and was later transferred to the Princess of Wales Bridgend for a stay of nearly 8 weeks due to the great demand for specialist care in the area. Dafydd needed a lot more intensive attention and care. This type of care that we all take for granted costs the Trust so much for each baby admitted and for every procedure, investigation and daily cares given for the duration of their stay.
Raising money will help with these costs and to fund things like better parent-centred facilities, new specialist equipment for each baby, resources and support for parents who are apart from their babies and specialist training for staff to name but a few.
Premature and special care babies are born with such special demands that raising just a small amount of money can have an immediate effect. My family and I also want to personally say a great big "thank you" to the staff at these Units for looking after both our babies and our family so well by raising money to remember the care and help we were given. We are now so lucky to be blessed with the family we always dreamed of.
Please donate your small change towards the Neonatal and Special Care Baby Units of ABMU Trust, it really will make a big difference to these small babies, their families and the staff who work so very hard.
