The Challenge:
The Tay Descent
It was all a bit random and off the cuff but last week i decided to rope Scott into a slightly crazy venture. We both agree raising money for charity is a worthwhile cause and if you can do something you love whilst doing it, all the better.
The plan is to canoe from Killin (at the source of the river Tay) to Dundee where the river meets the sea. The total distance is around 136 km which equates to around 84 - 90 miles long. The hope is to complete this between 24 and 36 hours on the 20th and 21st November!
To do this we will have to paddle through the night, face strong winds, low temperatures and tackle some of the more demanding water which exists between Aberfeldy and Stanley. Not only that but we have to plan our trip around the tide which we need to be going out as we approach Perth to ensure the last leg of our journey is possible.
Our chosen charity is Maggie's Centre in Dundee, which aims to provide support for those suffering from cancer. The charity provide on-site psychologists, relaxation sessions and a wealth of information, all for free. I personally think its a great cause because it takes a pro-active appraoch towards dealing with the many different aspects of the disease whilst also helping others, such as loved one's, who may be affected as much as the person suffering from the disease. Any contribution is gratefully received to ensure the Centre can continue to function the way it does - free of charge.
