My Story

Following the loss of my dear wife in 2015 after a long battle with breast cancer, I started to have discomfort/chest pain when exerting myself. I initially put it down to lack of fitness (I previously used to run regularly
without any problems), so I started to go to the gym and running again,
although my stamina improved slightly, I continued to suffer from chest
discomfort.
I went to my GP on several occasions with complaints and was eventually referred to Cardiology department at UHW Heath Cardiff and after a number of tests I was diagnosed as suffering from angina and had a number of blocked arteries and required CABG (Heart by-pass operation).

At the end of November 2017, I underwent a Quadruple heart by-pass operation at the UHW Heath Cardiff.  Although the team explained what to expect, I was still very anxious before the operation. It’s amazing how right they were. Everything went according to plan and just as they explained, and even better, as I was discharged two days earlier than expected prior to the op.

All the consultants, surgeons, nurses and the support staff have been absolutely fantastic in looking after me at the hospital and providing subsequent care and support. I just feel like doing something by way of a  THANK YOU and to show how my health has improved since the op.

Now six months after my operation (June-18), I feel so much better and positive about everything. I have been regularly attending cardio rehab classes and have already started running again, so much that I feel confident enough to aim for the Cardiff Half-Marathon in October 2018. There’s nothing I would like more than to be able to raise some funds for the Cardiac Unit from my effort by way of a THANK YOU for everything they have done and are doing, and hopefully, inspire others who have gone through or are going through a similar experience to be more positive and look forward to good health.
