Story
Darkness into Light Walk - Rotherham Hospice Fund Raising in Memory of Dolores.
I would like to invite you to our " darkness into light" charity walk on Saturday the 28th Sep 24. This is to commemorate what would have Dolores 69th birthday.
This is a truly memorable experience setting off in the dark at 6.00 am taking in the majestic and magnificent views around the Derwent and Howden reservoirs as the sun rises.
Dolores loved to walk and this is the perfect way to remember her and raise much needed funds for the Rotherham Hospice that cared for her.
Despite another very difficult year the hospice has continued to provide the wonderful care, love and reverence of its patients that it has become synonymous with. If we can again raise as much as possible to help and thank them for the care they gave Dolores it would be fantastic.
I understand it has also been a very difficult year for us all again but if you can make this charity commemorative walk it would be very much appreciated. It is also a great opportunity to catch up with family and friends
The walk is relatively strenuous; distance is 10 miles and takes approx 4 hours so please consider your personal fitness level. The plan is to walk from Fairholmes Visitors Centre at 6.00 am prompt.
There is a lovely stream location half way round so bring a picnic. Well behaved dogs are very welcome but please be aware there is a “dogs must be kept on leads” rule in the valley.
Donations will remain at £10 per walker or £20 per family. If you think you can raise more through sponsorship please email ronbranagan1@gmail.com and I will provide a form.
All donations will be very much appreciated.
Our previous 6 commemorate walks and birthday donations have raised over £8500. Our total target for the walks including this year is £9500. Family, friends and sponsors have so far raised over £23K through various events in support of the hospice. The family wish to thank everyone very much indeed, Dolores would be very proud.
Directions; Head out of Sheffield on A57 the postcode is S33 0AQ. When you reach Ladybower traffic lights go straight on across the viaduct and take first junction on the right. Follow the road to Fairholmes Visitors Centre Main Car Park. (not to the roadside parking which we have previously used)
All car parks within the area are now metered but we have managed to obtain waiver vouchers for those taking part. I will issue the vouchers on arrival in the car park. Please try and arrive no later than 5.45 am. If the weather forecast on the day is not suitable for the walk I will notify everyone. Please keep a check on the update page below.
Please carefully plan your journey as there is no mobile phone signal in the valley. The area can be very chilly / cold /wet at this time in the morning so wrap up well.
Anybody planning to take part please register with Ronnie by texting on 07818082738.
