- Delayed diagnosis
(compared to continental Europe)
- Poorer survival rates
" " "
- Being subject to a
'postcode lottery' in reference to treatment
- Being subject to
inequalitties depending on socio-economic background and/or age group
-
UK citizens are less likely to receive some cancer treatments in
comparison to counterparts in Europe
- Suffering delays after being
referred to specialist services
These stats became reality in my
life when one of my closest friends who worked in UK as a doctor for
more than 14 years was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The
opportunity of receiving a comprehensive package of care which included
surgery, inmunotherapy, chemotherapy and rehabilitation were made
available for him in Hamburg (Germany).
It was in this context
that I made a personal commitment to cycle from Land's End to John
O'Groats ( total distance 874 miles ). My expectation is that by sponsoring me, you will be
contributing towards improving the quality of care and overall
opportunities for cancer patients living across the UK, making them
comparable with those in continental Europe.
Many thanks
