Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have been working with the Footprints Foundation for 14 years and am very excited about our next development. Following on from last years successful 5 day cycle from Lusaka to Botswana, I have decided to embark on one of my biggest challenges to date to help raise money for the refurbishment of a transitional home which will help support children as they reintegrate back to their families, safe houses or children's homes where they are safe from the dangers of the street and harmful environments. This year i will also be raising funds for both Footprints Foundation and Faith- Works Charity and 50 % of funds raised this year will be split with Faith-Works a UK Charity based in Bournemouth who are celebrating 20 years of Ministry supporting the homeless and vulnerable in Dorset, this is an amazing charity providing hope and support to so many vulnerable people.
In September 2024, I will be cycling from Lusaka in Zambia to Zimbabwe, over 5 days and covering 500km. This will be a single ride and i will be celebrating my 70th birthday whilst in Zambia and what a way to celebrate! the Footprints team will be accompanying me in a relief vehicle which is a blessing, particularly in what will be soaring temperatures!
Footprints Foundation for Children in Zambia is a charity& based in both Zambia and the UK working with children living on the streets in Lusaka where there are estimated to be over a thousand children living on the streets. The charity engage in regular outreach programmes amongst the children with kindness and compassion and build relationships and trust with an ultimate aim to reintegrate children back to their families or to safe houses or children’s homes where they are safe from the dangers of the street, degradation, unhealthy and harmful environments as well as the peer pressure to join gangs and involvement in petty crime and drug abuse. The Footprints Team offer renewed hope to the children to fulfil their dreams and achieve their potential in life by helping them make a fresh start. The foundation also undertakes the funerals of those children who sadly loose their lives on the street and who deserve the same dignity, care, and compassion as any other human being.
Footprints have reached a crossroads in their reintegration programme and have recognized the need for a ‘transitional home’ for those children who have been identified and encouraged to be taken back home often many hundreds of miles away across Zambia. The house will accommodate the children on a short-term basis whilst preparations are made for their journey home keeping the child safe and provide clothing, food and emotional support and counselling to equip them for a reunion with family and community and a return to schooling. The transitional home has now been purchased through the support and kind donations of our supporters across the world, refurbishment of the transitional home along-with providing such basic items as a bore hole, septic tank, electricity& supply, boundary walls, security gate, bunk beds, kitchen, upgrade of bathroom has now been identified and is around £12,000 and will be essential to the ongoing success of the outreach work and reintegrating of even more children each year.
Faith-works is a charity supporting the homeless and vulnerable within Dorset and this year is celebrating its 20th year as a Christian Charity, this Ministry reaches out to so many people bringing hope and support for many.
