Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On the 28th - 30th May 2011 Liam Jay, Joel Campbell and myself (Rod Love) will be taking part in a challenging cycling event called the Tour of Wessex, which covers over 300 miles in 3 days.
A little bit about our chosen charity - The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
The operational costs of The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance helicopter are £1.4m a year, that’s approximately £3,800 per day. They receive no funding from the Government or the National Lottery and rely almost entirely on the generosity of the public to ensure they keep flying.
Since their launch they have attended literally thousands of life saving missions. On average they are deployed 3-4 times per day, however during the summer months this can increase up to 8 and they can be anywhere within the two counties in under 19 minutes of receiving an emergency call, making their service the ideal choice in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
Why the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance?
Back in July 2010, my son Harry Love was involved in a near fatal car accident. I say 'near fatal' because if wasn't for our chosen charity it would have almost certainly been fatal. Here's a little story that featured on their website - http://www.dsairambulance.org.uk/harry-love-meets-the-crew-that-saved-him/
"Any one, at any time, could require the services of the Air Ambulance: no one is immune!"
