Robert McLelland, better known as Bob, joined the army as an apprentice soldier at the age of 16. He trained as a Ammunition Technician as part of group 74C at Chepstow Training College. He worked his way through the ranks to appointment of Conductor before taking an LE Commission. He retired as a Major at the age of 51. During his time in the army Bob was deployed to various locations including the Falklands, Northern Ireland, Germany, Canada and Oman. In 1994 Bob was seriously injured in Northern Ireland but with the support of friends and family managed to fight back and eventually return to work. Through these injuries he also became a member of BLESMA.
Even though he retired he never slowed down, directing his energy to renovating the family home, playing golf, researching the family tree and spending time with his family. Bob leaves behind a wife, two children and a grandaughter. We have decided to create this page to continue to support BLESMA in his memory. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
