Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
I am running the Great North Run on the 20th September for Breast Cancer research. My charity is Breakthrough Breast Cancer; you can read about them in the Scottish Running Guide Summer 2009 pages 90 and 91.
My work friend Andy Birt's wife, Audrey is the director of the Scottish research clinic in Edinburgh. Every year he asks me to run but have resisted with the responsibility of fund raising. I was asked again a few weeks ago and said I would consider overnight. Flicking through the TV channels that evening by chance I found and watched the programme " My Breasts could kill me" by Dawn Porter. I was horrified by the tales of heartache in fighting and happy when they triumphed in defeating this disease. What these women have to go through in their fight for life and effects on their families and children was unbelievable. I could not believe 1 in 9 females in Scotland will develop the beast cancer at some point during their lifetime. I promised myself I would never moan about my running injuries again as their pain and emotional suffering touched my heart. Then I thought about my running friend Anita, who bravely fought and won her battle with the disease and recently ran the Edinburgh Marathon in May. What an inspiration.
So inspired by Anita and those women I watched on TV, I decided I could not say no to Andy again and signed on the dotted line for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity.
