Story
Hi,
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.
I have been very fortunate in my life. I have a great family with two healthy daughters and was recently blessed with a beautiful granddaughter. I recognise however other families aren't so lucky and in a small way I want to help.
I am privileged to have Children with Cancer UK as my chosen charity. This fantastic charity is dedicated to the fight against the injustice of childhood cancer by funding research, raising awareness and supporting families. You cannot fail to be moved by some of the journeys children have gone through and the bravery shown. I would urge you to have a look at their website -https://www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk
At the end of their treatment the child is asked to "ring the end of treatment" bell that symbolises the end of radiation treatment and being ready to get back to normal life. It’s a moment for the whole family to celebrate – an opportunity to reflect on what’s been an emotional and physical journey, and to think about the future. The end of treatment bell inspires children with cancer to persevere and it brings hope for the future when things are tough.
So what will I be doing? On 4th September I along with a friend, will be attempting to cycle to length of the country from Lands End to John O'Groats. The route we are taking is circa 1,200 miles and somewhat hilly. I am no Bradley Wiggins (unless he has doubled his weight) and a relative novice at cycling. However since the turn of the year I have been training hard, albeit we are still slow compared to many other cyclists. We are looking to complete the ride in three weeks.
I would be enormously grateful if you could spare a few pounds and sponsor me on my journey so that together, we can help children with cancer on theirs.
My daughter Ellie will be updating my Facebook page throughout the journey so you can keep track of my (slow) progress.
Thank you,
Rob Slater
