Marie Curie - Liverpool Hospice Kilimanjaro trek · 6 June 2014 to 15 June 2014 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool (MCHL) offers specialist care for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and you can read about the work of the hospice in detail here http://www.mariecurie.org.uk/nurses-hospices/our-hospices/liverpool/.
In summary the hospice aims to meet the needs of people from all cultures and communities, with its 30-bed inpatient unit and associated day therapy services providing physical, emotional and spiritual care for patients together with support for the people who are close to them. The hospice employs a team of health and social care professionals, including medical and nursing staff specially trained in pain and symptom control, occupational therapists, chaplains, physiotherapists and social workers, Annual running costs top £5.5 million, and with less than 50% of this being met by the NHS, MCHL relies heavily on the generosity of the public to fund its vital services. That's where we come in!
On 6 June 2014, we'll fly to Tanzania and attempt to climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro - the very roof of Africa - to raise awareness and much-needed funds for MCHL. We'll face exhaustion and exhilaration in equal measure in conditions that change from equatorial to arctic within the space of a day's walk. Altitude sickness in some degree is almost a certainty, as are blisters, aching joints, muscle pain and sleep deprivation, and the possibility of complete mental derangement can't be ruled out, either!
MCHL is a much-needed source of care and support in the Liverpool community, and we want to raise as much as we possibly can to help continue its valuable work. After a solid year of fundraising we've pushed through our original target of £8,000, but we thought why stop there?! We're now aiming to make it a nice round £10,000 and it would be fantastic if you could help us on our way by making a JustGiving donation today. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Marie Curie, so it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now - we'd really appreciate it.
Big thanks,
Jo & Tamsin
