Story

Event Summary

Between the 14th February 11 and begining of March the UK and Afghanistan based River Helmand rowing teams committed their spare time to acheiving the River Helmand rowing challenge. A throughly impressive display from both of the teams, saw the UK team managing to complete the event in 21 days with the Afghanistan based team reaching their goal in 28 days.

The Afghanistan based team had some inspirational solo performances, all of which were squeezed around very long working days. Luke Dodington-Boyes took it upon himself to row a marathon in a single sitting (42.2km). John Brown ran a half marathon in 29 degree heat, then cracked on with his rowing quota and Dom McMinn smashed out the gargantuan total of 403km, in the final 16 days of the challenge.

Having completed the event the teams are unbelievably grateful to all of those who have donated and helped us reach the fantastic total indicated above!
