Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 1st September 2017 my daughter Brionny and I will start from Land’s End with the aim of cycling to John O’Groats arriving 2 weeks later on the 15th September. On the way we will also be visiting Lizard Point and Dunnet Head, the most southerly and northerly points of Britain.
Myself and 3 work colleagues did a similar trip 20 years ago, but from north to south and I’ve often thought about doing it in the more conventional south to north direction. That original trip in 1997 was part of my 40th birthday celebrations and this year it will be my 60th!
One of my personal reasons for doing this trip is to remember one of those 3 colleagues who is no longer with us. Rich Edwards died 2 years ago from an undiagnosed heart condition, he was just 49. It’s ironic that Rich was a keen sportsman and the fittest of us all; no matter the weather he would never miss a training ride and was always first up a hill or wanting to cycle 10 miles more.
In memory of Rich we would like to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation and would be extremely grateful if you are able to help by making a donation.
The trip is totally self financed and every penny raised will go to the BHF. We will take nothing other than the achievement of completing the ride and raising money for this most worthy cause.
If you are a UK tax payer this can be increased with a gift aid declaration.
Our self-planned route totals around 1000 miles and will average around 70 miles each day. We will be totally self-sufficient carrying everything we need with no support crew.
Accommodation will be B&B which have been pre-booked, so we will have a target to aim for and the promise of a comfortable bed and perhaps a pint of the local brew at the end of each day in the saddle.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
