Please donate and support my ‘Run to work’ for Caudwell Children.
On Sunday 19 May I will be running to work, something which some of you may do on a regular basis but for me it is a tough 30 mile run! From the northern outskirts of the M25, past Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament along to the Olympic Park, finishing at Upton Park, ready to complete a day’s work at the West Ham vs. Reading match.
I’ve been inspired by a young footballer at West Ham called Dylan Tombides who has overcome many challenges while staying dedicated to his fitness. I have decided to raise funds for Caudwell Children, a national charity that provides family support services, equipment, treatment and therapies for disabled children and their families across the UK. They also run an Enable Sport programme for talented disabled athletes and organise a Destination Dreams holiday programme for children fighting life threatening conditions.
Physical activity and exercise for health is one of my academic and research areas, so it's also high time I proved I actually practice what I preach. I am hoping the run will make football fans and West Ham supporters more aware about the numerous health and happiness benefits of physical activity and maybe consider how they travel to games and getting fitter like the players.
