Story
I first came up with the idea of this personal challenge at the
start of 2016 inspired by my daughter's fund raising for HDA last year. She raised £350 making lavender bags. I decided to set myself some challenges as I edge towards my 50th year to raise money for HDA and especially for my two great friends Chris and Mark Wood.
Chris and Mark are twins who were diagnosed with Huntingdon's in
1999. They are both very brave and tenacious but they are now not able to do physical things they used to...but I can......
It's quite simple. I have a target of £4,000 to raise through a
number of challenges because I can do these things and others can't. As I am competitive I want to do these things quicker than I have done before ( I think I'm a late developer...) and I also want to do some new things.
I set myself 4 challenges at the start of the year to complete in 2016. I have completed all 4 challenges.....
1. ParkRun....
I try and do this every Saturday morning. In 2015 I averaged about 22.00 mins for 5 km. My best time was 21.06 mins which hurt. I have completed 34 runs now so an easy challenge is to get to 50. I also want to break 21.00 mins.
As of 17th September I have now run 53 Parkruns and just broken my PB with a time of 20:48....
CHALLENGE 1 COMPLETED !
2. Blenheim Triathlon
Sunday 5th June....I have not done a triathlon before, I don't swim or cycle but I am sure I can......It is a 750m open water swim, a 19.2km bike ride and a 5.4km run. I set myself a time of 1:45:00
I completed the Blenheim Tri in 1:40:58.
I decided I enjoyed Tri’s and went on to do the JLL Property Tri and improved my time to 1:33:26.
CHALLENGE 2 COMPLETED !!
3. Half Marathon....I have never done long distance running as i don't think my body would take it but I am sure I can do it.......I am entered into the Oxford Half Marathon on Sunday 9th October. I am aiming for a time of 1:46:00.
I completed the Half Marathon in a time of 1:44:39
CHALLENGE 3 COMPLETED !!!
4. 10k run.......Chris and I ran the Oxford Town and Gown 10k in 2010 in a time of 1.08 hours My best time was in 2014 at 45.53 mins. I can't do the Town and Gown this year but I am entered into the Eynsham 10k on 27th November or similar with the aim of beating 45.50 mins.
I ran the 10k in a time of 45:45 cheered on by Charlie Allison
CHALLENGE 4 COMPLETED!!!!
I have decided to launch my fundraising on Chris and Mark's 50th Birthday which is today 4th December. Happy Birthday chaps!!!
I would be extremely grateful for all and any donations…..If i can get 100 people to sponsor me £10 each for my 4 challenges then that's my £4,000....
