Story
I met and fell in love with Hilary in Manchester 1981 and she has been part of my life ever since . I lost her to cancer in March 2022 and everything has changed for ever. I am struggling to process life without my best friend and soul partner and the fact that I will never see or hear her voice again is crippling me. Cancer has taken her too young, has robbed us of growing old together and has left our son Harry without the Mum that loved him more than anything in this world. Cancer is insidious and its tentacles wrap themselves around loved ones and friends. As a family it took us over and sucked the life and joy out of us. But ultimately I'm still here and my Hilary isn't and this is unfair. I want to walk 50 very long kilometres (I have never done anything like this before!) to raise money for Macmillan who were instrumental in helping me get Hilary into The Heart of Kent Hospice for her last six days in this world. I was desperate to get her to this hospice and they gave her the love, care and compassion that Hilary deserved and a peaceful pain free exit from this world. They are extraordinary, but it is now Macmillan's turn to be put in the spotlight for they have always been by our side throughout both Hilary's cancers, Ovarian in 2011 and lung cancer in 2019. Their professional, dedicated and caring support were invaluable to both Hil and myself during our bleakest times and there were many. They are extraordinary too.
Please give whatever you can however small and hopefully my love will carry me over the line.
Wish me luck and let's hope my boots just keep on walking!
Thank you
